Remember the Lord, who is great and awesome, and fight for your families, your sons and your daughters, your wives and your homes. – Nehemiah 4:14

Over and over in the Word we are reminded to remember the Lord or to not forget the Lord. Why do you think that might be? When everything is going great, do you tend to forget the Lord? Or what about when times get hard and you are so focused on surviving?

Whether times are good or bad, we need to remember the Lord.

I love this name of the Lord. Our God is so great and awesome in so many ways. Think about this name. In what ways is the Lord great and awesome? How have you seen His greatness and awesomeness?

I’m up in the mountains for the whole week by myself in a nice cabin very secluded (the nearest neighbors are a half mile away, then next nearest are at least a mile away!) I’m able to see God’s greatness and awesomeness here in ways I don’t always see when I’m in the city. The huge trees and the massive rock formations, the deer that stop by to visit every day, the lone elk I saw this morning, the most brilliant blue birds I’ve ever seen, and the ground hogs, squirrels and rabbits playing. All of this with the mountain peaks in the background and the calmness of the pond outside my front door. Sometimes I just start laughing because I’m so overwhelmed by God’s greatness and awesomeness and goodness to me.

I’d really have to work at not seeing God’s greatness and awesomeness here, but even at home I can see God—when I’m looking. I think that’s a key. Sometimes you can’t miss God’s greatness—like here in this cabin on 200 acres, surrounded on four sides by the national forest. But other times, I have to choose to see His greatness and awesomeness. It’s in the normal, mundane times that we need to be reminded to remember God’s greatness and awesomeness.

Take some time today to remember your God and focus on Him. Praise and worship Him.
