God’s Name of the Day: Author and Perfecter of Our Faith

Hebrews 12:2—Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

Some things you can do today with God’s name:

  • This verse offers great ideas on how to effectively manage stress. Meditate on it, asking the Lord to show you what you can learn about managing your stress.
  • Other versions use founder or pioneer for author. Some use finisher instead of perfecter. How does that change how you see Jesus?
  • God is the one who began our faith, on whom it’s founded and He is the one who will make our faith stronger, more perfect. Ask God to reveal what this name means to you.
  • This verse says that we are to fix our eyes on Jesus, the Author and Perfecter of our faith. He is the perfect example to us of how to live this life and how to manage stress. Read this verse again, meditating on each part of it.
  • The Message translates Hebrews 12:1-3 this way, “Do you see what this means—all these pioneers who blazed the way, all these veterans cheering us on? It means we’d better get on with it. Strip down, start running—and never quit! No extra spiritual fat, no parasitic sins. Keep your eyes on Jesus, who both began and finished this race we’re in. Study how he did it. Because he never lost sight of where he was headed—that exhilarating finish in and with God—he could put up with anything along the way: Cross, shame, whatever. And now he’s there, in the place of honor, right alongside God. When you find yourselves flagging in your faith, go over that story again, item by item, that long litany of hostility he plowed through. That will shoot adrenaline into your souls!”
