Never Do Fundraising AgainThe Power of a Handwritten Note

Excerpted from Never Do Fundraising Again: A Paradigm Shift from Donors to Lifelong Partners

By Ken Williams Ph.D. and Gaylyn Williams

The first example of the written word in Scripture was when God wrote on the stone tablets (Exodus 24:12). We have come a long way since then in our written communication.

A US Postal Service survey reveals personal letters are at a record low. In their annual survey, they discovered that the typical home only received a personal letter about every seven weeks. That doesn’t include greeting cards or invitations.

Since so few people are sending personal letters, it makes yours more powerful. Yours may be the only personal letters people receive in a month or more. Remember, we are talking about communicating with partners, not necessarily other people who you want to keep up with.

Think about this: What do you normally open first when you get your mail? Junk mail, bills, credit card ads or a personal letter? If you’re like most people, you will open the personal mail first, especially if it is handwritten.

Written communication can be powerful if it is done right, or it can be a waste of time if done poorly.

Blessings on you today and in the coming days.
