This is what the Lord says—he who made a way through the sea, a path through the mighty waters.
“Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past.See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?
Isaiah 43:16, 18-19
Steps on Your Journey to Know God More Intimately:
- The beginning of the passage, above, describes who this God is that is talking. The last part is what the Lord says to them and to us.
- The first thing these verses say about God is that He is the One who makes a way through the sea, a path through mighty waters. He did that for the Israelites in Exodus 14. But He will also do the same for you today. What sea are you going through? Are you in deep waters? He will make a way through them. Ask Him right now to do that. Then thank and praise Him for what He has done and what He will do.
- Now look at what the One who made a way through the sea has to say to you: “Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past.”
- What do you need to forget? There is a time to remember, and we need to remember the good things God has done for us. But there are other things we need to forget and stop dwelling on. Ask God to show you what you need to leave behind, so that He can do a new thing in your life this year.
A Prayer for You:
God, thank You that You are the One who makes a way through the mighty waters in my life. I’m so glad I can trust and rely on You to take care of me, protect me and guide me. Show me what I need to forget so that I can see the new thing You want to do in my life.
Ken Williams, Ph.D, Founder of International Training Partners (AKA co-author with me of Door to Joy and my dad!) said about The Surprising Joy of Exploring God’s Heart:
I’ve always found great joy in exploring God’s unique identity and have studied it often. But this book has opened my eyes in new ways to appreciate who He is, and to love Him more than ever. Each day is a heart-warming adventure as I come to know Him more, and examine my relationship with Him in new ways.
