I Am Not Afraid Because God Is With Me
Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.

Steps on Your Journey to Discover How God Sees You:
- In this verse, we are told to do two things:
- Don’t fear. Over a hundred times, the Lord tells us not to be afraid. Why do you think the Lord tells us so often not to fear? I believe it is because we are so prone to fear and Satan loves to attack us with fear. If he can get us fearful, then he has won, because when we are fearful, we often become paralyzed.
- Don’t be discouraged. When I look at circumstances, I can become discouraged, because they can be overwhelming. I need to keep my focus on the Lord. When I’m looking at him, I can’t focus on the problems.
- We are given five reasons or motivations:
- God is with us. This is in the present tense. He is always with us.
- He is our God. This is also in the present tense. He’ll never stop being our God and He’s big enough to handle anything that comes our way.
- He will strengthen us. The root of strengthen in the Hebrew is courage. He will give us courage to face whatever comes our way.
- He will help us. He is big enough and wise enough to help us through every situation we may encounter.
- He will uphold us with his righteous right hand. He protects us and always does what is right for us. He knows us better than we know ourselves and He knows what we need.
- Earlier this year, I had a great opportunity to practice this. I went through a very scary episode where I was blinded, confused, passed out and the doctor couldn’t find my pulse. For the next two months, I felt horrible. I went through many tests, but the doctors couldn’t find the source of my problems, other than a heart defect. I had to choose to trust God in those times, even though my natural inclination was to fear.
- What about you? What causes you to be afraid or discouraged? Talk to God about them. Then focus on God being with you and give Him your fears.
A Prayer for You:
Dear Lord, thank You that because You are with me, I don’t need to fear anything. You give me strength and carry me through any situation I may encounter. Increase my faith so I can focus on You, regardless of what might happen in my life.
