You Are the Light of the World

You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden.
Matthew 5:14 ESV
Steps on Your Journey to Discover How God Sees You:
- Imagine you are a lighthouse sitting on a hill, allowing God’s light to shine out of you. My prayer for you is that as you learn to see yourself more and more and God sees you, your light will shine brighter and brighter to everyone you encounter.
- What does it mean that you are the light of the world?
- In what ways are you a light to those around you? How can you be a better light?
- Jesus said in John 8:12 (ESV), “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
- How was Jesus the light of the world? How can you imitate Him? What might need to change in your life so you can be a light to those around you?
- What do the following verses add?
- Philippians 2:15 (ESV): “Be blameless and innocent, children of God without blemish in the midst of a crooked and twisted generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world.”
- Isaiah 60:1-3 (NLT): “Let your light shine for all to see. For the glory of the Lord rises to shine on you. Darkness as black as night covers all the nations of the earth, but the glory of the Lord rises and appears over you. All nations will come to your light; mighty kings will come to see your radiance.”
- Who needs you to be a light for them? How can you do that?
- I encourage you to write Matthew 5:14 on a card or sticky note. Say it every day until you memorize it. For ideas on how to memorize Scripture, go to www.RRbooks.com.
A Prayer for You:
Jesus, thank You for coming as the Light of the world and that You are an example to me of how to be a light to those around me. Show me more how to bring light into this dark world. Forgive me for the times when I have blended in to the darkness rather than being a light.

As ever, Gaylyn’s newest guide to applying specific Scripture portions to life is both practical and specific. Use these daily devotionals as a guide for your quiet time with Jesus or as a script for a small group studying the Bible together. Keeping a journal of your responses could be useful for later reference. However you choose to use it, this book of devotionals is bound to bless you, those you live with and those you minister to.
