Promise: I’m God’s Child and When I See Him I’ll Be Like Him

By Gaylyn WilliamsWith 0 comments

Friends, that’s exactly who we are: children of God. And that’s only the beginning.

Who knows how we’ll end up! What we know is that when Christ is openly revealed, we’ll see him—and in seeing him, become like him. All of us who look forward to his Coming stay ready,

with the glistening purity of Jesus’ life as a model for our own.

Steps on Your Journey to Embrace God’s Faithfulness:

  • The English Standard Version translates these verses: “Beloved, we are God’s children now, and what we will be has not yet appeared; but we know that when he appears we will be like him, because we shall see him as he is. And everyone who thus hopes in him purifies himself as he is pure.”
  • Let’s look at what these verses tell us. Consider each part:
  • We are God’s children. You are God’s child! What does that mean to you , knowing you Father is the King of the Universe?
  • When Jesus comes back, we’ll be just like him. In what ways do you think we’ll be like Him?
  • We’ll see Him as He is.
  • What do these verses add?
  • 1 Corinthians 13:12 (ESV): “Now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I have been fully known.”
  • Romans 8:29 (ESV): “Those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers.
  • 2 Peter 1:4 (NIV): “[God] has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature and escape the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.”
  • How does 1 John 3:3 in The Message say we stay ready for Jesus’ return? Are you doing that? Why or why not?
  • Meditate on each of the promises in these verses today. What is God saying to you through them?
  • I don’t know about you, but I’m excited to see God face-to-face, knowing I’ll be like Him. Meanwhile, I want to prepare myself, letting Him transform me into His image day by day.
  • Speak this truth today: “I declare that I am a child of God and I will be like Jesus when He returns.”

A Prayer for You:

What an honor to be Your child, God. I am a child of the King. Thank You for the hope I have, knowing that when You return, I will be like You, because I’ll see You as You are. I want to become more and more like You now, being transformed into Your image (2 Corinthians 3:18).
