Jesus’ Name: My Rock

Jesus’ Name: My Rock

The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer;
my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge.
He is my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.

Psalm 18:2

My Rock

Steps on Your Journey to Know God More Intimately:

  • Psalm 62:2 says, “Truly he is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will never be shaken.”
  • Sela is used in Hebrew in Psalm 18 and means rock, fortress, stone or stronghold. Tsur is used in Psalm 62 and is translated rock, strength and Mighty One.
  • Each day this coming week we’ll be looking at different names of God in Psalm 18:2. I’d encourage you to read this verse several times each day, so you can begin to learn it.
  • I grew up in a tiny village in the mountains of Guatemala. On the way up to our village we passed a massive rock by the road. Despite torrential rains, devastating earthquakes and mudslides that often closed the road, the rock never changed. It wasn’t affected by wind, rain, earthquakes or anything else. That rock reminds me of God, who is my Rock—only my Rock, and yours, is stronger, bigger and nothing can ever change Him (something could potentially change the rock in Guatemala).
  • Meditate on God as your Rock. How is He like a Rock for you?
  • As you face various situations today, remind yourself that you are not alone. The One who is your solid Rock is your protection. He never changes and He will be your Rock forever.

A Prayer for You:

My Rock, I praise You and thank You for being unchangeable and dependable. I’m glad I can build my life on You, because You are solid and strong. Help me to learn to rely on You more as I get to know You in new ways.
