Preparing for Easter

This month, let’s prepare our hearts for Easter by looking at some of Jesus’ names as He was going to the cross. We’ll look at some of them from the gospels. My other blog, www.DailyNameofGod.com will have names from Isaiah 52 and 53 about Jesus. You might want to check those out too.

God’s Name of the Day: The Stone the Builders Rejected

Matthew 21:42—Jesus said to them, “Have you never read in the Scriptures: ‘The stone the builders rejected has become the capstone; the Lord has done this, and it is marvelous in our eyes’?”
This verse is also quoted from Psalm 118:22-23, the same chapter as, “He who comes in the name of the Lord.”

Some things you can do today with God’s name:
Think about what this name means. Ask the Lord to show you what He wants you to know today. You might think through what each word means:

  • The—not just any stone
  • Stone—what was the stone used for? What is a stone? How is Jesus like a stone?
  • The Builders—who were they? What were they building?
  • Rejected—What does it mean to be rejected? When have you been rejected? What did it feel like? Why was Jesus rejected by the builders?

Read Isaiah 53:3. It talks more about how Jesus was rejected by men.

As you look at Jesus’ names this month, focus on what all He went through for you—the incredible stress He endured.
